According to a new study, adding natural fruit juices rich in vitamin C to an infusion of green tea, increase their antioxidant properties.

Green tea has antioxidants called catechins, responsible for some health benefits such as reduced risk of cancer, heart attack and stroke.

Although these results are preliminary, we found that citrus juice increased recovered catechin levels (absorbable) in more than 5 times, while vitamin C or ascorbic acid improved the nieveles recoverable from the two most abundant catechins between 6 and 13 times.

The study was a laboratory model simulating the digestion in the stomach and small intestine, where green tea was tested with a number of additives, including creams and juices.

According Ferruzi, author of the study, citrus juices and vitamin C may interact with catechins to prevent degradation in the intestines.

Let us not forget that vitamin co ascorbic acid, has antioxidant properties itself. This added to the antioxidant benefits of green tea could be the reason for the results obtained from this study.
